ZION NATURE CENTER CELEBRATING 15 YEARS

ZIONSVILLE, IN, - May 5, 2017 – The Zionsville Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Zion Nature Center with a Birthday and Box Turtles Event. The event will take place on Saturday, May 20th, from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Zion Nature Center, located at 690 Beech Street in Zionsville, IN. This event is free and open to the public.
The event includes the unveiling of the new Box Turtle Exhibit. The new exhibit, a 5-foot diameter hollowed-out tree stump, was envisioned by Park Naturalist, Mindy Murdock, and is being custom designed by Minnesota-based Blue Rhino Studio. The exhibit will house the Zion Nature Center’s Eastern Box turtles. Fundraising for the exhibit kicked off in fall of 2015 with a rummage sale at the Nature Center. The exhibit received great community support and was fully funded through generous donations by private individuals, community organizations, and gifts in memorial. Union Elementary 1st grade 2015 Coffee with a Cause raised more than $800 and the remaining $5,500 was donated by the Friends of the Zion Nature Center to meet the $9,500 fundraising goal.
In addition to the new exhibit, Birthday and Box Turtles will feature turtle-themed activities and crafts, opportunities to meet some of the nature center educational animals, birthday cake and more!
The Zion Nature Center was founded in 2002 in through the dedicated efforts of the Zionsville Parks Department and the Friends of Zion Nature Center. The Zion Nature Center encourages Zionsville and Central Indiana families to take an active role in their native environment through educational and inquiry-based programs and activities.
