Zionsville Selected as a Finalist for Little League® Central Region Headquarters
April 20, 2017 (Zionsville, Indiana). Zionsville, Indiana has been selected as one of five finalists through a process that began in October 2016, when Little League International issued a Request for Proposal to communities in the 13 states it serves (Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin).
The Central Region Headquarters serve as an administrative office for Little League, managing 26,000 teams and 375,000 players for baseball and softball. It hosts the LL Great Lakes and Midwest Region Baseball Championships and LL Softball Central Region Championships. Winners from these Championships advance to the respective World Series tournaments in Williamsport, Pennsylvania (baseball) and Portland, Oregon (softball).
A local group who put forth the proposal to LLI feels that Zionsville is uniquely qualified for this opportunity. “The street signs at the town’s entries say ‘Zionsville - For All the Right Reasons’ and that could not be a more appropriate expression in this situation” said Mike Rinebold, President of Zionsville Local Organizing Committee and Zionsville Little League. “Our proposal offers all the right reasons for LLI to call Zionsville home – a highly engaged volunteer base, a safe and thriving community and a rich history of Little League baseball and softball. While we are confident we can provide LLI with a great facility and solid infrastructure, we feel equally proud of the community’s ability to embrace the teams, families and visitors to make their experiences here special.”
Little League International and the members of its relocation committee will conduct a site visit to Zionsville in the May-June timeframe. An announcement of the final selection is anticipated in November 2017 with baseball and softball competition scheduled to begin at the new headquarters location in summer 2019.
